Abbey and Betsy groomed Lady this morning and got Sadie settled into one of the empty stalls since she doesn't yet have her own shelter out in the goat/chicken pen. (Minnie hogs the lone shelter and Sadie has to either stand out under its awning or get under the chicken coop.) After grooming Lady, Abbey hopped on her back and rode her bareback for a while. Arnie also walked the woods on our property, scouting maple trees for tapping in about 6 weeks. We're going to try our hand at making maple syrup.
It was a chilly, rainy afternoon, but Abbey and Arnie still moved about a face-cord of firewood into another of the empty horse stalls for drying. The firewood was stacked under the big beech tree at the end of the driveway. They took turns using a wheelbarrow to haul it back. Abbey tried her hand at splitting some of it, but didn't have much luck. Arnie finished splitting what wasn't done a week ago.
Abbey dodges Lady's nose as she swings it toward the camera.
