The pink house

There is a pink house on Crawford Street in Terre Haute. It's on the 1600 block near Charlie's Hideaway, a local tavern that is known for cold beer and the best hamburgers in town. Between the two landmarks is where Arnie's grandparents, Ed and Louise Howes, lived. The house is long gone, as is Louise's sister's house, which was right next door. Both were demolished to make way for Charlie's expanded parking lot.

The pink house has been there since the 60s, when Arnie was very little. It was one of the things he remembered on our recent trip to ISU with Abbey. He could still picture exactly where grandpa's black dirt garden was, and where the out building with the coal-stained siding stood. There are a few old pictures of the surroundings available and we'll scan/publish them one of these days. But for now, a picture of a house that has been pink for at least 40 years is probably more than enough for one day...
