In search of a state record

Arnie spent a couple of evenings this summer chasing a new state record flier sunfish. The current Indiana state record flier sunfish was caught in 1983 and weighed...sit down for this... 3.5 ounces! The flier sunfish inhabits the Patoka River and the sloughs near it. Chances are that much bigger fish have been caught, but most people probably throw them back or eat them without realizing they may have a state record.

He didn't catch even one in his two trips, but he said the two sloughs he fished were not as deep as he had hoped, and probably didn't have many fish in them. Below is one of the sloughs that he fished - he said it was two feet deep at the deepest part and had no fish. Next summer he will find deeper sloughs.
