The early bird

The new chickens are old enough to be laying eggs now, but we've not gotten any from them. Kelley says if they don't start laying she is going to start marching back and forth around the chicken pen, with a frying skillet and with Betsy following closely behind blowing a trumpet made of ram's horn. (It worked at Jericho, why not here?)
Arnie installed a light on a timer since chickens require 14 hours of daylight to lay at their maximum potential. The light comes on at 3am. Arnie says the eggs will soon be rolling down the ramp, there will be so many.
