Abbey's first track recruiting letter

Abbey received her first college track recruiting letter this week from Earlham. She had received letters for basketball in the last year, but since she has had two joint surgeries due to basketball injuries in the last four years, she has given up basketball. Her joints were not made for the abuse of basketball, but track is made up of straight lines and gentle turns. She can handle that!

She runs mid-distance and this past spring was her first season ever in track. She did well, winning the conference in the 800 and placing 2nd in the sectional (among 20 runners). She tore her ACL four days before the track regional. She didn't know it was torn, just that her knee really hurt. Even though she was in pain at the regional, she was running 3rd out of 20 with only one turn to go when the pain got so great that she had to limp to the finish. Had she not limped to the finish, she would have qualified for state in her first season. (We promise not to brag on the kids any more for at least another month!)
