Dad and Ab went nut-gathering and squirrel hunting for a couple of hours today. There is a bumper crop of acorns and hickory nuts. They have about eight gallons of nuts (no hulls) gathered up. They took the gun along in case any squirrels were in the mood to be put into the pot as they wandered, but none were in the mood.
Dad had lost his brand new squirrel call the day before when squirrel hunting - he had removed his bag and powder horn several times to gather hickory nuts and forgot that his call was with them. He asked Ab to help look for it as they foraged and she just happened to find it next to a tree in the hickory patch. Pretty good when you consider that it is about 1-2 square inches in size and was in a woods that was many acres.
Ab shows off the found squirrel call
