Skeet gets stung

Skeet watching the bee dump

The bees came yesterday. Neighbor Mike brought them over; he had picked them up the previous day in Leitchfield, KY. Loading them into the beehive that we built was a pretty simple matter. The queen was lifted out first (she was in a little box within the box) and her little box was put into the hive. Then, the rest of the bees were literally dumped into the hive.
The queen's box has a candy stopper in the entrance and the rest of the bees are supposed to eat the candy to free the queen within a couple of days. We'll see how that works out.
No humans were stung in the operation, but you'll notice that the picture below (taken about 3 seconds after the one above) has no Skeet in it. The poor thing was attacked by four or five angry bees. She seemed normal again after about 15 minutes.
