Ouch

The ice hit Wednesday night, but dad forgot the weather forecast when he took the wood ash out the front door at 4:30 Thursday morning. When his foot hit the top step, it shot out from under him and he landed on his back on the sidewalk. The ash and hot coals flew up into the air and landed on him. Knowing there were hot coals all over him, he quickly jumped up and shook them off. It was quite a commotion, Abbey (who had fallen asleep in the front living room) launched over the back of the couch and was outside in a second.
It knocked the wind out of him, bruised his butt, and caused his shoulder to dislocate temporarily. Fortunately, the coals weren't on him long enough to burn.
School was called off of course. Dad and mom started to go into work, but slid sideways at Schafers' drive and returned home. Neighbors Bill & Jill stayed home from work also. Dad, Abbey, and Bill did go into Rural King around dark just to test the roads.

Jack, Jake, and Skeet check to see if the ice is good enough to sled on

One of the many vehicles in the ditch - this one at Taftown and 350E
