Enough wood?
It turned viciously cold yesterday afternoon about four o'clock. The news had been warning of the brutal winds coming, but most of the day was just brisk and tolerable. Betsy helped dad split and stack wood in the pole barn all afternoon on the day before while mom and Abbey were shopping in Evansville. Dad split and stacked some more yesterday, since the weather prediction kept getting worse and it made him feel better to be doing it.
We're going through firewood at a fast pace with this premature cold and we're worried there may not be enough seasoned wood out there to get us through the winter and still have some left for maple syrup. We've not burned a drip of fuel oil since getting the wood stove, so it is worth seeing the wood pile dwindle. That's what it's there for.
We had an audience while we worked (below). Jake even let us pet him repeatedly.
