More disappointment
Unfortunately, the jump ball picture from last night's game against Evansville Bosse may be the last picture ever taken of Abbey playing basketball. Less than a minute later, she dislocated her left shoulder. It went back in on its own, but three minutes later, it came out again. She was in a lot of pain and left to go to the emergency room. But, it went back in on its own again, so mom and dad brought her back to watch the rest of the game.
Coincidentally, the accident happened in the exact same place on the same court that dad ended his career in 1983 with four torn ligaments in his knee and ankle.
Abbey had started the tournament off with 12 points against Evansville Reitz and was really getting on a roll, both offensively and defensively. She was pumped for this game, feeling like she was ready to dominate. She was very upset at having to leave the game.
She is out for two weeks, but that is only because she can't see her doctor until January 3rd. If the rotator cuff is torn, it will mean surgery at some point. If it isn't, she probably still should not return to basketball because it will happen again and would endanger her track season - a sport that has only straight lines to run and no contact. With Abbey's loose joints, that may be all she can do.
