"Names" is a good game to play when school/practice are called off due to weather
The Brummetts - our pastor & wife in the late 80s - taught us a fun game called "Names" about 20 years ago. All that is needed is a bunch of pieces of paper, some pencils, and a way to time 60 seconds. It begins when everyone on the two teams takes an equal amount of papers (usually totalling 40 or so for the table) and writes the name of an individual on each. The name must be a proper name of anything that could be called an individual, living or dead, real or animated. Examples from our game last night were Johnny Cash, Franklin Pearce, Julian Assange, Underdog, and Bobby Knight.
All of the names are put into a box or bowl, and then each team tries to guess as many names in 60 seconds as possible before giving the bowl to the other team.
Last night started with mom and dad versus Abbey and JP. That was pretty lopsided (mom & dad rule), so it evolved into dad and JP versus mom and Abbey. These couple of rounds were lopsided too - dad did his "annoying game laugh" often...
Some good laughs can be had when everyone at the table except the guesser knows a name
