Dad went to the Contemporary Long Rifle Association show in Lexington, KY yesterday and today. It was quite a show - the entire convention center next to Rupp Arena was filled with contemporary flintlocks, original 1700s flintlocks, powder horns, and other items. Many guns were for sale in the tens of thousands of dollars.
He was most impressed with a collection of three 1750s flintlocks that were built by the same gunmaker. All were in great shape. One of the guns used to belong to Frank House and he had once turned down $75,000 for it. One of the three had only been discovered this year, having belonged to a family for over 200 years.
He went with Dave Reising, Bob Butcher, and Bill Knowles, pictured below. They had reservations at the Hyatt, but found out that it was overbooked. The Hyatt sent them to downtown, where they got to stay at the 100 year old Gratz Park Inn for free. They were probably a little under-dressed for there, but they enjoyed it anyway. The parking lot was full of expensive cars like the Maserati in the cell-phone picture above.
