The girls pose on monument circle
After the game Friday night, we walked up to the circle to scout for senior picture backdrops and to see the city at night. The streets and sidewalks were packed and there were literally hundreds of policemen everywhere. There were cops on horses, on bikes, in cars, and walking. We thought it was overkill, but then we're from the country. We don't know how to run no city :)
We found out today what was going on. The Black Expo was going on in the vicinity and the city had brought cops in from everywhere to stand watch. Even then, the show of force didn't stop the violence. There were ten people shot in a three block area - the same area that we had walked all over...exactly 24 hours after we were there. They said it was gang-related and all were drive-by shootings. We're glad we were there at 9:30pm on Friday night instead of Saturday night.
