"From this hill, looking north and east, we see marvelous changes that have taken place since the time of boyhood memory. Then, all this country was a vast swamp, an impenetrable wilderness, inhabited by snakes, frogs, lizards, mud turtles and various kinds of wild animals. Now (1914), this same country is a great cornfield, as far as the eye can reach, and comprises some of the most valuable and most productive land in the county."Gil R. Stormont "History of Gibson County, Indiana" 1914
