Lady grazes behind the new potato bed
Dad tilled in a bunch of old manure and mounded up a 33' x 6' bed for wall-to-wall potatoes in a "lazy bed". He planted the potatoes solid, giving each twelve inches of space and using 18 pounds of seed potatoes from Rural King. The potatoes were barely covered with dirt and then covered with 12 inches of straw. We probably won't do potatoes this way again next year, due to the cost of three bales of straw. (Unless it saves us $13 of weeding and digging effort.)
Mom says we could buy a lot of potatoes for $13...
Dad picked the straw up in the van, so the it now needs another cleaning :)
