The official fast food meal of our family - a Skyline four-way
If you are expecting Texas-style chili when you go to Skyline Chili, you'll be disappointed. If you go with no expectations, you'll like it. Skyline's chili is different and should probably not even be called chili. It is more like spaghetti with heavy Mediterranean spices, raw diced onions, and a big honking handful of shredded cheese on top. You can order it with onions, beans, both, or neither. A true Cincinnati resident knows that four-way means with onions (as opposed to the other combinations.) Cocoa and cinnamon are two of the spices that give it a unique flavor.
Skyline (and their competitor, Gold Star Chili) cannot be found much outside of Cincinnati, although Skyline has expanded into some other cities within 200 miles of Cincinnati. They are famous for their coney dogs, but chili is our favorite. Kelley will be making a batch of Cincinnati chili for our tiny Super Bowl party on Sunday. It will be the fourth year that she has done this.
