Dry holes

Stan Miles drills a tree near a deer stand west of the house

Stan Miles and dad tapped a couple of maple trees yesterday, but with no luck. We've never tried to do maple syrup before, so we're not quite sure about timing. The days are supposed to be 40 degrees or above with the nights still below freezing, but evidently it takes a run of days like that to get the sap running. We're not giving up though. Maybe next weekend...

The first attempt at sugaring - the milk jug is hanging on the elderberry "spile"
