The evaporator rig is almost ready
Dad and Betsy spent the nice warm day preparing the evaporating rig and bulk barrel yesterday. The new pan fits the evaporator well and the bulk barrel set-up looks like it will work after dad worked on a couple of leaks in the plumbing. The bulk tank has a sight tube so that he can tell the level of sap in the barrel without climbing up to look in. There is a valve at the bottom that will then feed into a copper line that hugs the flue pipe for pre-warming the sap before it gets to the pan.
It would be nice to be able to do a test boil with the set-up, but there is still some welding to do on the evaporator metal top and dad has to rely on either Neighbor Bill or Larry Koch in Darmstadt to do it. They're both pretty busy over the holidays and with work and we're not quite sure when it will get done. Hopefully, it will all work as planned.

The bucket in the lid above will have cheesecloth in it for filtering the fresh sap
