Betsy pets Skeet during a break
Dad and Betsy went across the road to Schafer's woods to cut up a couple of downed maple trees yesterday. The trees were at the bottom of the hollow, so it required a lot of trips carrying firewood up to the truck. They loaded only one truck load, but will go back to get the rest another day. As always, Skeet supervised the activities.
The inside firewood storage is almost to capacity, so a lot of wood will be left to season in the woods this year. That makes sense anyway, because after seasoning for a year, the wood will be much lighter to carry out or haul home - probably as much as 40% lighter.
Dad made a firewood carrying yoke this week, which ought to make the job easier on backs and arms. It's just a long garden tool handle with two five-gallon buckets suspended on the ends.
The Schafers' new pond is beginning to fill up
