Sneaky buck
Dad didn't do any good yesterday on opening day, only seeing does and small bucks. He went to the Locust Hill thicket this evening and was in the middle of deer activity the entire time. At about 1pm, he leaned his gun up against this big rub tree. At about 1:15pm, after he had sneaked about 10 yards past the tree, he heard a twig snap behind him. He looked over his shoulder and saw a very big 10-pointer standing 15 yards behind him, apparently following his trail. They had a stare-down for about five minutes and then, when the buck turned his head slightly to look toward a noise, dad raised his gun to his left shoulder and aimed with his weak eye on the wrong side. Believe it or not, he had to shoot through a fork in the rub tree he had just photographed (just above the rub damage in the photo). The buck was so close that all the slug had to do was get through the fork and it couldn't miss. The photo below shows what happened...
