Sand and block for the evaporator will have to wait a little longer
For the past month or so, dad has been engineering an evaporator for maple syrup in the pole barn. The thought was good; one project could evaporate sap, be a wood cooking stove when desired, and serve as a heating source for the front of the barn. He had the mason lined up to begin laying block tomorrow, when he thought to call the insurance agent to ensure it would not void our coverage. It is a good thing he called; he found out that wood burners of any type in an outbuilding or garage are strictly prohibited. Who woulda thunk it. Right now, he is shopping around and has a lead on a company that will insure evaporators. For now however, the project is on hold.
