The first fire
After a month of waiting, the wood stove is finally in. We put $400 worth of fuel oil in our tank for the old furnace a few weeks ago, but that isn't much fuel. We have quite a bit of wood and it is nearly free, hence the impatience about getting the thing installed. Meny's worked all day yesterday putting it in and we fired it up about 4pm. The temperature was up to about 75 in the dining room in about 90 minutes and with the furnace fan circulating through the rest of the house, it was comfortable throughout.
We kept a small fire going in it all night just to see how it worked and it worked fine. Since the fire was small and only one log at a time, dad was up a couple of times through the night to feed it. Once it has had five or six fires in it to cure the paint, we can bank it up pretty good to get it through the night. The heat sure felt good with the cold and rain that was going on outside.
