We barely got there, but we made it. The LM Sugarbush Maple Festival was this past weekend and we had to dodge tornadoes to get there. Dad had the business trip to Cincinnati, so everyone spent the night in Richwood, KY on Friday. A large group of violent tornadoes swept through the region in the early evening and Richwood was right in the middle of the outbreak. Fortunately, the tornadoes split up and went to both the north and to the south. A wind-diverter blew off the top of a semi and barely missed the car as dad was trying to exit at Richwood. It was probably several feet from the windshield, but it looked like inches.
Henryville was essentially wiped off the map and several people died. LM Sugarbush is only six miles west of Henryville, but the tornadoes also went on both sides of it, barely missing.
The festival went on as planned, although with a slightly smaller crowd. The temperature was in the 30s to start, which was quite a change from the 70s the day before. Time was spent looking at all the booths, sampling a variety of maple products and other old-time novelties. After the Miles's showed up, everyone tried their hands at using log sawing, log fights, and tomahawk throwing. Stan and dad inspected the entire sugar operation after everyone ate pancakes/waffles/sausage with maple syrup in the sugarhouse. A highly recommended event destination...
Stan and Judy Miles finally arrive after detouring around tornado damage
Breakfast (you can't see the Goering's dog laying under the table)
Buying stuff
Checking out the evaporator
Round one!
The little kid is taken aback by Judy's intensity :)
