Out on a limb

Cousin Jeremy (Edrington) hunted behind the house yesterday and made a shot on an 8-pointer. He came up to the house and enlisted the help of Boscoe, the famous deer tracker. The buck had crossed the river - Jeremy tracked it right up to the slippery banks. Dad and Boscoe went with him to the north side of the river. Boscoe took up a strong scent where the old river channel empties into the new river. While Jeremy went across the old bed to look for sign, dad inspected the river. He saw a dead dear caught in the log jam just upstream from where the buck entered. They came back home, and went back to the log jam where Jeremy crawled out on the log to see if it was his buck. It wasn't, so he went back around to the south side with Boscoe.
The buck must not have been mortally wounded, because they were unable to find it (Boscoe doesn't miss a deer scent). There was a humorous moment though, when Boscoe broke free and Jeremy was still in his undies from wading the river bed. He had to run 100 yards to catch him, all the while without his clothes...
