After many years as serving as the "temporary" holding place for bargain basement plants (those that were purchased for $1 or those that were received from friends), the cabin garden is finally looking like something. Plants that did not turn out well - or that were too large to transplant to a better place - were removed last year and replaced with mulch (free, of course!) or new and better-suited permanent plants.
The addition of the new patio, firepit, and patio made the garden look complete. Heirloom perennials that came from ancestors' gardens and plants that have been moved with the family through the years comprise a large part of it. It is rapidly becoming one of our favorite places to hang out.
This flower (don't remember it's name) is the Betsy flower, named so because it is in the background of one of our favorite pictures of her when she was a toddler
Wet wood burning in the firepit helps to keep gnats and mosquitoes away with it's smoke
