Dad shovels snow into the truck to add weight
Abbey had to be at work at 7am, but with six new inches of snow, that was not going to be an easy task. Mom and dad got up to take her in the truck since the road hadn't been plowed yet. Unfortunately, the truck was parked in the back of the pole barn, and with the lamp post still laying across the barn yard, dad couldn't get a run at the slight hill when he came out of the barn. The truck got hung up two or three times, and well, dad's rambling Facebook post pretty well sums it up:
Let's take Abbey Howes to work in the truck @ 6am. But truck hangs up in the barn yard due to pushing snow that is higher than the bumper. Go to get tractor to pull truck out. Tractor won't start. Struggle to get the van into the pole barn to jump start the tractor to pull the truck out. Start the tractor. Struggle to get the van back out of the pole barn far enough to get the tractor out to go pu...ll the truck. Park the van, get on the tractor, drive back to the truck. Where is the chain? Oh, it's under 18 inches of snow over by that cool lamp post, where we drug it out of the woods two weeks ago. Go back to the house to get the shovel to dig out the chain to hook on to the tractor to pull the truck out of the snow that is over the bumper. Hook the chain onto the truck. Pull the truck over to the road thanks to some fancy driving by the farm wife ;) Walk through knee-deep snow back to the tractor and put it back into the pole barn (facing out so it can be jumpstarted again next time). Tell Abbey that we're ready to take her to work and ask Denny's for some free coffee for getting her there on a short-handed day in a blizzard. "Oh, I don't have to be there until two now."Life on the farm.
We ended up going to town anyway, just to get a couple more pieces of drywall for finishing off the garage. While mom and dad were hanging the drywall, Betsy got pegged for a chore to break the monotony of sitting on the couch. She had to separate nails and wire nuts out of a box of drywall screws. And she didn't even have to leave the comfort of her perch :)
