The leaf gasket
Dad moved some of his sap buckets because he was concerned that some of the taps had "healed" over and were giving less sap than they should. The unusually warm weather lately has caused the sap to slow way down or stop altogether. Nights have to be below freezing for good sap flow and we've had overnight temperatures in the 50s.
When he moved a couple of them, the spile and the hole didn't match up too well. In a resourceful streak of genius :), he grabbed some leaves and used them as gaskets. The leaks around the spile bases were stopped completely and the sap went into the jugs as planned.
